Hablando con Jordi Egea de Los Electricos (Parte 1/2)

Uno de los objetivos que nos pusimos al empezar esta aventura fue traer a intérpretes de Barcelona y alrededores, preguntarles y ofreceros sus gustos, inquietudes y opiniones. Hemos tenido la oportunidad de entrevistar a Jordi Egea, guitarrista de "Los Eléctricos".

One of our goals we stated when we started this blog was to find musicians from Barcelona, to talk with them and to bring to you their feelings and opinions. We have had the opportunity to "talk" with Jordi Egea, "Los Eléctricos" guitar.

Jordi nació el 21 de febrero de 1969 y acaba de cumplir 40 años. Como ya hemos dicho, es el guitarrista de Los Eléctricos. ¿Tocas algún otro instrumento? Bajo y batería ¿Colaboras con otros proyectos? Ocasionalmente ¿A qué edad empezaste con la música? Empecé a tocar con 12 años ¿Cómo empezaste? Cuando mi madre me regalo un curioso artefacto: una guitarra!!! ¿Recuerdas tu primer instrumento? Lo recuerdo y lo conservo, una guitarra clásica Admira modelo Belinda. ¿Y el primero profesional? Squier jv series telecaster 52, la primera serie económica de fender se diferenciaba de la gama alta simplemente en que las piezas se ensamblaban en Japón. Tuve buena suerte!!!

Jordi was born on february, 21st 1969 and he has just reached 40 years. He's the lead guitar of Los Eléctricos. ¿Do you play some other instrument? Bass and drums ¿Do you take part in another projects? Ocassionally ¿What age did you start with music? I started playing when I was 12 years old ¿How did you start playing music? When my mother give me a strange artifact: a guitar!!! ¿Do you remember your first instrument? I remember it and I keep it, an Admira clasic guitar model Belinda. ¿And the first professional one? Squier jv series telecaster 52, the first economic Fender series was only different from the high range in the fact the pieces were assembled in Japan. I had a good luck!!!

¿Has estado antes en otros grupos? Si, en alguno que otro. The cortijo experience por ponerte uno de los interesantes. ¿Cuáles son tus gustos musicales? Rock, blues, soul, reagge, música latina, country, punk...aunque mi centro musical es el rock procuro disfrutar con todo. ¿Alguna pasión secreta? ¿Algún gusto que sorprendería? Carlos Gardel, el Jose Feliciano de la primera época y escuchar de madrugada las emisoras de onda corta. ¿Cuáles son tus influencias? Stones, Police, Hendrix, Beatles, Graham Parker, Jose Feliciano, Santana,,, ¿Qué guitarristas te gustan más? ¿Por qué? Te diré los principales de los que creo que aprendí mas: De Keith Richards la actitud rock, tocar “delante” y el tacto, de Andy Summers el valor de los silencios o el “menos es mas”, de Jimi Hendrix el sentimiento soul y el funk, de George Harrison que el sentimiento y la intención son lo primero, de Santana la melodía (mi primer intento de solo fue moonflower),..a partir de aquí no acabaría nunca…desde Johnny Winter o Hound Dog Taylor a Marc Ribot o Johnny Mars ¿Hay algún otro instrumentista de otro tipo o cantante que te haya impactado? Serrat, Miguel Rios y por supuesto Gardel

¿Did you had another bands before? Yes, in some. The cortijo experience is one of the most interesting. ¿What's the music do you like? Rock, blues, soul, reagge, latin music, country, punk... even if my music center is rock I like to enjoy everything. ¿Some crecret passion? ¿Some amazing thing? Carlos Gardel, the first Jose Feliciano and listening the short wave radio stations. ¿Who are the most influencing musicians for you? Stones, Police, Hendrix, Beatles, Graham Parker, Jose Feliciano, Santana,,, ¿Who are your preferred guitar players? ¿Why? I will tell you the main ones from whom I learned more: From Keith Richards the rock attitude, playing "in front" and the touch, from Andy Summers the value of the silencesor the “less is more”, from Jimi Hendrix the soul and funk feeling, from George Harrison that feeling and intention are the first, from Santana the melody (my fisrt solo try wasMoonflower),..from here I will never end…from Johnny Winter or Hound Dog Taylor till Marc Ribot or Johnny Mars ¿Some other player or singer that influenced you? Serrat, Miguel Rios and, of course, Gardel

¿Qué material utilizas? Suelo usar guitarras telecaster (a veces cuelo la stratocaster) estilo vintage con cuerdas 10-46. Tengo un amplificador Fender power chorus de 130w del año 90. Suelo usar un pedal booster Behringer para los solos y un afinador Boss. Púas médium Dunlop ¿Con cual te sientes mas a gusto? La telecaster te obliga a estar mas atento que la strato, no te cubre tanto pero te hace dar mas de ti mismo y tocar con mas decisión. Últimamente estoy muy a gusto con “sombra”una Fender telecaster 72 custom mim negra. ¿Algún modelo que desearías? Estoy contento pero no le haría ascos a una Fender custom shop. Como en los coches, me gustan los modelos de los 50’s y 60’s en colores pastel. Hablando de tu formación… ¿Has tenido algún profesor? Soy principalmente autodidacta, guitarrista de rock de barrio. Aprendí tocando en mi habitación encima del Some Girls de los Stones mil veces hasta sacar todos los acordes. Mis intentos con las escuelas no fueron muy positivos “¿Chuck Berry? Eso es muy sencillo” y cosas por el estilo…pero me sirvieron para aprender a (en mi modesta opinión) enseñar bien. Al final todo tiene su función.

¿What's your equipment? I usually use telecaster guitars (sometimes, I use the stratocaster) vintage with 10-46 strings. I have a 1990 Fender amplifier power chorus with 130w. I use to play with a booster Behringer for solos and a Boss tuner. And Dunlop médium picks. ¿What makes you more comfortable? The telecaster forces you to be more accurate than the strato, you ar not so covered but you are forced to give more from yourself and play with more decission. Lately I feel very comfortable with “Shadow” a Fender telecaster 72 custom mim black. ¿There's some model you would like? I'm happy but I would not say no to a Fender custom shop. As in cars, I like the 50’s and 60’s models in pastel colours. Let's talk about your training… ¿Did you got a professor? I'm mainly self-taught, neighborhood rock guitarrist. I've learned at my room playing over the Stones Some Girls thousand times until I got all the chords. My tries with schools were not very possitive “¿Chuck Berry? That's so easy” you know… but I used it to learn to teach (in my humble opinion) well. At the ends, everything has it's function.

¿En qué estáis trabajando ahora? Preparando temas nuevos y puliendo el directo ¿Nuevos temas a la vista? Tenemos 15 temas en la recamara que estamos preparando y 6 en estado muy embrionario ¿Qué tema de Los Eléctricos es tu favorito? ¿Y para un directo eléctrico? ¿Y para uno acústico? ”Hay un extraño en mí” por la energía y “Mi ángel particular” por lo emotivo. El sonido acústico creo que le sienta muy bien a “Otra vez” ¿Cómo ves el futuro de una banda de rock en Barcelona? Jodido. Barcelona es un lugar muy poco rockero. Pero nosotros somos unos cabezotas y nuestros seguidores son fieles e imparables. ¿Ves movimiento en general en España? Me refiero tanto a nuevas bandas y nuevas cosas de las más antiguas y a la existencia de público. ¿Lo ves parado? ¿Lo ves activo? No estoy muy al caso pero veo poca gente que haga buenas canciones, canciones con mayúsculas. Pero aunque el rock no esté en su momento más popular, buscando siempre te llevas buenas sorpresas. ¿Dónde te gustaría estar en cinco o diez años? Me gustaría que nuestra música llegara a más gente. Creo sinceramente que lo merece. Por lo demás (excepto lo de cargar y montar, je je) estoy perfectamente. ¿Qué le recomendarías a alguien que sueña con ser una estrella del rock y empieza? Tómate tu ofició con respeto, hazlo a tu manera lo mejor que puedas e intenta hacer un poco mas feliz a los demás. Eso es el éxito.

¿What are you doing now? We work in new songs and also in perfecting our live shorws. ¿New songs? We have 15 songs we are working woth and 6 more in an ambryo state. ¿What's your preferred "Los Electricos" song? ”Hay un extraño en mí” for its energy and “Mi ángel particular” for the emotional. The acoustic sound I thinks is perfect for “Otra vez” ¿How do you see the future of a rock band in Barcelona? Bad. Barcelona is a place not so rocker. But we are so obstinated and our fans are faithfil and unstoppable. ¿Do you see rock scene in Spain? I mean new bands and also older ones and also the public answer. ¿Do you think it's stopped? ¿Maybe alive and active? I don't really follow the scene, but I see few people doing good music, songs with capital letters. But even if rock is not in its best moment, searching you get allways good surprises. ¿Where do you would like to be in 5 or 10 years? I would like our music reached a wider audience. I honestly think it deserves it. For the rest (except for loading and setting up, XDDD) I feel good. ¿What's your advice for someone who starts dreaming to be a rock star? Take your job with respect, do it your way the best you can ans try to make the others just a little more happy. That's success.
